Melba Bishop Pickleball Boosters Association Board Members

PRESIDENT
I grew up in a sports family with 2 brothers who played football and basketball and a father who exposed us to every sport he could, from motorcycles to golf to ping pong. (1 beat them all at the latter). As a teenager I found "horses" and this love is what started my 30 year career into the world of animal training. We moved to Oceanside 5 years ago. Melba is where I started playing chickleball and I never stopped enjoying all it had to offer. I knew no one, but that changed the day I walked on to the court. Everyone there was encouraging and friendly. They made me feel part of the community right away. To this day many of them are dear friends. I have 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren whom I've introduced to the sport. I've seen first hand how a sport can bring a family together and also connect them to a community. I love the community of pickleball at Melba and I plan to follow in the path set forth by the founders whose vision has made it a fun and successful part of the community.
CC Summerfield
VICE PRESIDENT
Hi everyone, my name is CC Summerfield. I moved to Oceanside last year from Ocean Beach, where I first discovered my love for pickleball a few years ago. When I found the amazing community at Melba Bishop, I knew I'd found my people and I'm thrilled to be part of this group. When I'm not on the court, I'm either at the beach or in the water surfing. Between my work as a real estate agent and property manager, I squeeze in as much pickleball as I can, and honestly, it's not only one of my favorite ways to get some exercise, I love the community too. I'm excited to be serving on the board and am looking forward to the opportunity to help grow our membership while supporting and celebrating the members who make Melba Bishop such a special place. I look forward to working with you all.

Hello Fellow Pickleballers! I’m a native San Diegan and my husband and I have owned a home on Guajome Park for nearly 20 years (living here full time since 2023.) While I had no previous paddle or racquet sport experience, when I was introduced to pickleball a few years ago, like so many of you, I became completely hooked! My professional background is in non-profit management, primarily arts and culture, and we ran a small horse facility on Guajome Park for 17 years. Between the two occupations, I have had plenty of budget planning and review experience, as well as managing the QuickBooks accounts for our Ranch. I’m grateful to have found a pickleball home at Melba Bishop and look forward to giving back to this wonderful community through my board service.

On March 14th 2022, I retired from a career in Biotech, and on March 15th I attended Chickleball for the first time. I have been hooked on the game ever since. My husband and I have owned a home in Oceanside for 20 years. Besides enjoying time with my husband and grandbabies, pickleball has become an important part of my retirement. Prior to March 15th I had only seen three pickleball games, now I thoroughly enjoy my pickleball play. The game is fun, but the social interaction has been so invaluable to me. I believe by serving on the Melba Bishop Board as Social Director, I will be able to give back to the community of Oceanside in a fun and positive way.

BOARD MEMBER AT LARGE
I am of Polynesian descent, born & raised in Oceanside. I’m married, have 3 sons and sports have been a part of my whole life from being an active participant to teaching/coaching. I was introduced to pickleball a few years ago at Melba Bishop pickleball courts and haven’t stopped playing since! My whole family plays now and we love it! My desire of being on the Melba Bishop Pickleball Association Board stems from my love for the game and the wonderful opportunities I’ve had to meet some really amazing people! My hope is to help serve our community through this organization by providing more safe & healthy opportunities to create better relationships among us all as we continue to enjoy this game called Pickleball!

Hello Melba Bishop crew! I'm a San Diego native and lover of pickleball. I've been playing for approximately 4 years, and enjoyed the sport so much that I became a USA Pickleball Association referee as well.I'm a fervent believer in the ability of pickleball to build community and foster relationships, and joined the board with that goal in mind: providing my insight and experience in order to facilitate the continued growth of the wonderful MBPBA community. If you enjoy playing competitive pickleball, there's a good chance we'll run into each other on the courts, in one form or another. Whether across the net, or on the side of it, I look forward to the meeting!

BOARD MEMBER AT LARGE
Hi everyone, I’m Karen Arrieta. I was introduced to Pickleball by our own Sandy Segien and have such gratitude for all the game has given me…physical and mental health, friendships, endless laughs, and connection to a group of people I would have never met. So after retiring from an incredible career in Biotech, working with the inherited bleeding disorders community, I hope to use some of my work life skills as your VP on the board, to preserve and enhance the great programs our Association offers us and the community. I also enjoy extreme gardening and am working to get my dog certified with Love on a Leash so we can visit memory care, medical rehab facilities, and schools…Don’t worry, Milo will continue his internship as our Pball Therapy Dog.
